Proper branch trimming involves making clean cuts just outside the branch collar—the swollen area where a branch meets the stem—to promote quick healing and prevent tree disease. Sharp tools are used, such as bypass pruners for small branches (<1 inch) and saws for larger ones. For large, heavy branches, the "three-cut method" is used to prevent bark damage.
